The First Chapter

 Chapter One

It wasn’t the greatest, Peter thought.
Nor was it even decent.
Peter glanced over his shoulder where his sister Dana and her friend Eliza were watching the ghastly singer perform.
If they were to carry out their plan, now would be the time to begin.
“Dan. Dan, do you read me?”
“I hear you, man. Are we all set?”
“All set.”
Swinging his backpack over his shoulder, Peter left his seat and hiked up the dozens of steps to the back of the auditorium where he and Dan would rendezvous. He unloaded the contents of his backpack and studied them carefully. There was an old laptop, an extension cord, a battery pack, and a ham sandwich.
“There you are, peter!”
Dan stood behind his friend’s head. As usual, he was wearing a red tee shirt, denim shorts and his trademark smile.
“Are you ready to do this thing?”
“I’m always ready,” Peter said, reassuring himself. If they got caught doing this…
Dan looked Peter in the eye, “I’ll hook the computer to the cord. All you have to do is plug the cord into the nearest outlet, over there,” Dan gestured to an outlet ten feet away, “I’ll enter the code. On the count of three, get out of here as quickly as you can. Don’t look back. I’ll meet back up with you in the parking lot after I’ve hidden our stuff. Do you think you can handle that?”
Peter, looking confident, muttered a yes. He grabbed the extension cord and snuck over to the outlet. He watched as Dan’s fingers danced across the keyboard. Suddenly, Dan looked up. He made eye contact.
This was it.
Dan closed the computer and stuffed it into the backpack. Peter watched as his lips moved, no sound coming out.

One…

The hideous singer began his next song. Not for long, Peter thought as he crept toward the door.

          Two…

Peter’s fingers closed around the cool metal door handle, his knuckles turning white. He felt the ground begin to shake. The audience remained oblivious to the turmoil that was only beginning.

          Three!

Without a moment to lose, Peter threw open the heavy doors. Sunlight poured into the darkness and he shielded his eyes. Behind him, there was a monstrous boom and he heard the sound of many people screaming. With all that was in him, he ran toward the parking lot.

The singer's name will be found out in the next chapter.
It's funny. You'll like it.
At least you might... I think...
